Yesterday and Today – a brief historyIt all began in 1946 with two women cared enough to worry about a stray white dog. Sixty six years later, the same is true. With their no kill philosophy, Fox Valley Animal Welfare League has rescued countless companion animals in need. In 1992 they begin a partnership with the city of Aurora Animal Control and Care. Their network expanded to include over 100 licensed no kill rescue organizations that helped to foster and place over 3,000 companion pets in their forever homes. In 2009, the next step was taken to provide spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines and other necessary surgeries to all animals waiting adoption at Aurora Animal Control and Care. In a continued effort to further support their no kill philosophy, in 2011, FVAWL turned to prevention. Their new role in the community is to offer convenient and affordable spay/neuter surgeries and wellness care directly to animal rescue organizations, low-income families and the general public. Their new Spay/Neuter Clinic and Community Center will open on February 28th, 2012. The community Center will add a Pet Food Pantry in spring of 2012.
